Frivolous fun, just the right balance of action and comedy.
Xander Cage is left for dead after an incident, though he secretly returns to action for a new, tough assignment with his handler Augustus Gibbons.
This is one of those rare action movies that is actually fun. Critically it’s not great, Vin Diesel is hardly a superb actor, but this movie knows that and plays to his strengths. The supporting cast is fantastic with Australians Toni Collette and Ruby Rose taking roles alongside Donnie Yen, and Kris Wu.
The action sequences are not overly graphic and at times quite funny. The humour of the film is a much appreciated break from the bland spectrum of movies currently on the market. While the plot isn’t a completely original idea it is written well (for an action movie) and there seem to be any plot holes. The filmmakers clearly cared about this project enough to brainstorm a decent idea.
Overall this is a good, fun action movie.
