The best rom-com in years, a perfect blend of humour, romance and drama!
Pakistan-born comedian Kumail Nanjiani and grad student Emily Gordon fall in love but struggle as their cultures clash. When Emily contracts a mysterious illness, Kumail finds himself forced to face her feisty parents, his family's expectations, and his true feelings.
Kumail plays himself and the script, written by himself and the real life Emily is brilliant. It raises important issues and discusses racial stereotypes in an appropriate fashion, which, surprisingly also makes you laugh. Nanjiani is the standout, his performance is exceptional and hopefully this’ll enable him to work in more mainstream cinema. Ray Romano offers an exceptional dramatic performance, as does Holly Hunter. Zoe Kazan is excellent, as is the rest of the supporting cast.
Overall it’s well written, performed and director. I was laughing (and crying) from beginning to end.
