Some good performances cannot save this dull and boring “thriller.”
As a math savant uncooks the books for a new client, the Treasury Department closes in on his activities and the body count starts to rise.
I’m not quite sure if its the poor writing, directing or editing that lets this picture down most. Ben Affleck is able to capture the autistic nature of his character well and while his scenes with other characters are ok - he spends 40 minutes by himself and they are very boring 40 minutes. There is very little to keep you interested. The plot is predictable, cinematography ok and the acting varies - Anna Kendrick and Jon Berthnal are great…everyone else fails to captivate.
Many critics have argued the plot is overly complex and I don’t think that’s the case - it just seems to be a pointless movie. Is it a mob movie, FBI thriller, a story about being different, or a story of brothers? Whatever this hybrid is it doesn’t work.
Overall easy to miss.
