Frivolously fun action franchise offers it’s most explosive installment yet!
When a mysterious woman seduces Dom into the world of terrorism and a betrayal of those closest to him, the crew face trials that will test them as never before.
The trouble with this franchise is every instalment tries to one-up the stunts from the previous film, so you wonder where exactly the next one can go. After driving cars out of planes in number 7 this time they have a tank and a submarine. The stunts in this franchise are phenomenal, it is edge of your seat action from start to finish.
Plot wise it’s better than Fast7, 2 Fast 2 Furious and Tokyo Drift, and probably on-par with the rest of the franchise. Vin Diesel is an excellent action star, but he struggles with any emotional scene. Michelle Rodriguez isn’t a great actor, but has a lot of fun with the role. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is charming and charismatic, but Jason Stratham steals the show with his humorous lines. Helen Mirren is also playing the role she was born for, she clearly loves every minute in the film. The cast goes on and while comedically they’re all pretty strong, any scenes of drama/emotion feel a little lost on them.
The film, however, knows exactly what it is - a fun action film in the style of Die Hard, so it doesn’t matter that you don’t have Oscar winning actors (even though ironically 2 feature in the film!)
Overall an enjoyable installment in the franchise, that is sure to excite fans and newcomers alike. It certainly sets up the final two films in an dynamic fashion…
