This comedy is unafraid to push gender stereotypes, all while conforming to the stock raunchy comedy plot. Even so, why fix what’s broken? This film is amazing!
Amy has a seemingly perfect life, a great marriage, over-achieving kids, beautiful home and a career. However she's over-worked, over-committed and exhausted to the point that she's about to snap. Fed up, she joins forces with two other over-stressed moms on a quest to liberate themselves from conventional responsibilities, going on a wild, un-mom-like binge of long overdue freedom, fun and self-indulgence- putting them on a collision course with PTA Queen Bee Gwendolyn and her clique of devoted perfect moms.
Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn have a real grasp of comedy, and their rapport is superb. Christina Applegate plays the “villain” of the piece and does so with ease. The script, while following a specific outline is still remarkably clever. It certainly has a similar vibe to some of Judd Apatow's (producer) other work such as Trainwreck, They Came Together and Love, but it remains original in essence.
Overall it’s one of the best comedies of the year. Enjoy!
