American Assassin - 2 Stars

Senseless action thriller is far-fetched, but fun.

A story centered on counterterrorism agent Mitch Rapp.

The characters aren’t particularly unique or interesting, but actors Michael Keaton and Dylan O’Brien breathe enough life into them that you do feel slightly invested. The script had three major re-writes and you can tell its a big convoluted mess of contrasting styles. Visually the film was quite good, Michael Cuesta’s direction helps bring shape to the film. The use of a wide range of exotic locations helps ensure the film is “pretty.”

Overall it has a forgettable villain and a conclusion that’s vastly scientifically inaccurate, but all in all it’s a good action romp.
