Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool - 4.5 Stars

Intimate, beautiful and touching.

A romance sparks between a young actor and a Hollywood leading lady.

Based on true events with an exceptional script its hard not to emotionally invest in this obviously doomed couple. Jaime Bell and Annette Bening have remarkable chemistry, despite their age gap and the scenes they share are a marvel to watch. The cinematography and score are stunning and the supporting cast including Julie Walters and Vanessa Redgrave are excellent too. The emotional turmoil of the relationship is conveyed with ease as we watch these characters grow and the dialogue is so superbly realistic that it becomes easy to forget you’re watching a movie.

Overall an excellent piece of British cinema, which I’m sure tragically will be overlooked by most.
